COURSE DESCRIPTION (SPEAKING)

This course will help you improve your overall ability to understand and use spoken English. Materials include a variety of topics and activities to assist you in becoming a more confident and proficient English communicator. You will also develop your vocabulary and learn useful phrases to speak naturally and more fluently about a wide variety of topics.


NECESSARY THINGS

    1. 1.Three B6-size index cards (or notebook page, MS Word, etc.) for making conversation cards

    2. 2.File to organize all of your materials for the year and to keep track of your progress

    3. 3.Textbook: Kindt, D. (2019). Tools for Increasing Proficiency in Speaking (TIPS),

GRADING: A+ (90~100), A (80~89), B (70~79), C (60~69). Note all assignments must be submitted before the deadline, see WebClass. The Speaking part is 50% of your total English 1 grade:

    1. 1.Preparatory assignments: 9% (3 x 3)

    2. 2.Three Students’ Own Conversation Cards (SOCCs): 6% (3 x 2)

    3. 3.Report 1: Three Things about Me script, peer revision, and evaluation: 10%

    4. 4.Report 2: Shopping script, peer revision, and evaluation: 10%

    5. 5.Final report: Food and Eating Out script, peer revision, and evaluation: 15%
